Velano is an AI companion app for adults. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain language on purpose.
1. Who this applies to
Velano is intended only for people 18 years and older, currently available in English and Spanish for users in the United States. By using Velano you confirm you are an adult. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account. Your email address. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the account identifier those services provide (and, from Apple, a relay email if you choose to hide yours).
- Profile. The name you choose to be called, your age range, and your pronouns.
- Conversations. The messages you send to your companions and the replies they generate. To keep conversations feeling continuous, Velano derives and stores memory — a summarized record of facts and preferences drawn from your chats.
- Support. Anything you send us when you contact support.
Information collected automatically
- Device & technical. Device model, operating system, app version, language, and time zone.
- IP address & approximate location. We collect your IP address when you sign up and when you use the app, and derive your approximate country and region from it. We use this for security and fraud prevention, and to understand where our users are. We do not collect your precise GPS location.
- Notifications. If you enable push notifications, a device push token.
- Usage analytics. Events about how the app is used (screens opened, features used, errors) so we can fix problems and improve.
- Attribution & advertising identifiers. Measurement identifiers used only to understand which campaigns bring people to Velano. On iOS this includes Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you grant App Tracking Transparency permission; on Android, the Google Advertising ID. We also use Apple's SKAdNetwork, a privacy-preserving measurement framework that does not identify you.
3. How we use your information
- To provide and personalize your companions, including maintaining memory and continuity across conversations.
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To send notifications you have turned on.
- To keep Velano safe — content moderation, abuse prevention, and enforcing our Terms.
- To measure marketing, understand engagement, and improve the product.
- To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
4. Companions are AI
Your companions are artificial intelligence, not real people. To generate replies, the content of your conversations is processed by third-party AI model providers acting as our processors. Companions can be wrong and are for companionship and entertainment — they are not a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, or mental-health advice. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis hotline (in the U.S., call or text 988).
5. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your conversations for advertising. We share information with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract and only for the purposes above:
- Cloud hosting & database — to run the app and store your data.
- AI model & embedding providers — to generate companion replies and power memory.
- Analytics — to understand product usage.
- Attribution & measurement — to measure campaigns.
- Email & push delivery — to send sign-in codes and notifications you enable.
- Sign-in providers (Apple, Google) — if you choose them to authenticate.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of people or the service, or in connection with a corporate transaction (e.g., a merger), with notice where required.
6. App Tracking Transparency
On iOS we ask for permission to track using Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. This is used only for install attribution. If you decline, we do not use your IDFA; attribution then relies on privacy-preserving methods such as SKAdNetwork. You can change this any time in your device Settings.
7. How long we keep it, and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → About → Delete account. Deletion removes your profile, conversations, and memory from our active systems. We may retain limited records where the law requires it, or in anonymized or aggregated form that no longer identifies you (for example, safety records kept for statistical reporting). We also remove your identity from our analytics provider when you delete your account.
8. Your choices and rights
- Access & deletion. Delete your account and data in-app as described above; contact us for other requests.
- Notifications. Turn push notifications on or off in Settings → Notifications, or in your device settings.
- Tracking. Control App Tracking Transparency in your device settings.
- U.S. state privacy rights. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain uses of your information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To make a request, contact us below.
9. Children
Velano is not directed to and may not be used by anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
10. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to respond promptly if something goes wrong.
11. Where your data is processed
Velano is operated from the United States, and your information is processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using Velano you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in these locations.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Velano evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
